Recycling Electronics: Where to Take Old TVs and Other Electronics in the Tri-Cities, WA (2026 Guide)
If you are cleaning out a parent’s estate or decluttering a garage in the Tri-Cities, you will almost certainly find “The Beast.”
You know the one: a 100-pound, boxy tube TV (CRT) sitting in the basement, covered in dust.
You can’t throw it in your curbside trash bin (Waste Management won’t take it). You can’t put it in a dumpster rental (it’s considered hazardous waste). And if you try to take it to the landfill, you might get turned away or charged a fee.
The good news? Washington State has one of the best electronics recycling programs in the country, and you can likely recycle that TV for free.
Here is the local guide on where to take old TVs, computers, and monitors in Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland.
First: The “E-Cycle Washington” Program
Before you load up your truck, you should know that Washington State law requires manufacturers to pay for recycling. This program, called E-Cycle Washington, allows households to recycle the following items for FREE:
- Televisions (both flat screens and old tube/CRT TVs)
- Computers (Towers and Laptops)
- Monitors
- Tablets and E-readers
- Portable DVD players
The E-Cycle Site has a handy directory that you can use to view locations across the Tri-Cities that will accept E-Waste.
Note: This free program usually does NOT cover “peripherals” like keyboards, printers, or scanners. You may have to pay a small fee to recycle those.
1. The Best “One-Stop” Drop-Off: Goodwill Industries
Many people don’t realize that Goodwill is an official E-Cycle Washington partner. They generally accept broken electronics because they get paid by the state program to recycle them safely.
- Locations:
- Kennewick: 2618 W. Kennewick Ave (near the bowling alley)
- Southridge: 345 S. Columbia Center Blvd
- Pasco: 3521 W. Court St
- Richland: 201 Wellsian Way
- The Catch: While they usually accept CRTs, policies can change based on how full their bins are. It is always smart to call ahead if you have a massive projection TV or a truckload of items.
2. For Commercial or Bulk Loads: DTG Recycle (Formerly Clayton-Ward)
If you are clearing out an office or have a large volume of electronics, DTG Recycle is a fantastic industrial option. They are less “retail” than Goodwill and are set up to handle volume.
- Richland Location: 1936 Saint Street (North Richland)
- Kennewick Location: 119 E. Albany Ave (near the cable bridge)
- Why go here? It’s often faster than waiting in the donation line at a thrift store. You just drive in, drop off, and leave.
Make sure to view their E-waste page to see what they accept for free, what they charge for, and what they don’t accept at all.
3. The “Transfer Station” Option
If you are already doing a dump run, you can separate your electronics at the Waste Management Transfer stations.
- Kennewick Transfer Station: 2627 S Washington St.
- Process: Tell the attendant at the scale house that you have electronics. They will direct you to a specific “E-Cycle” area separate from the trash pit. Do not throw TVs into the general trash pit; they contain lead and mercury that can contaminate local groundwater.
Safety & Privacy Tips
- Wipe Your Data: While TVs are fine, if you are dropping off computers or laptops, ensure you have wiped the hard drive. While recyclers claim to destroy data, it is always safer to do it yourself or remove the hard drive entirely before donating.
- Watch Your Back: Old CRT TVs are front-heavy. If you are moving a 32-inch or larger tube TV from a basement, do not do it alone. We have seen serious injuries from people trying to carry these up narrow stairs.
Can’t Lift It? We Can Help.
